As the subject says...
The tank is of old thick glass of unknown age/manufacturer.
Is it safe to use some epoxy witchcraft, or is it safe to just leave as is?

It's a 29 gallon or so.

Measure tank, then check Aqueon and Marineland to see if either's frame would fit.

If old frame was not a single piece of plastic, then it is likely ok to use without a frame. Tank may be a bit ugly though without the frame or molding.
Like a complete unknown
