How many of you are still keeping these beauties?

I kept one a fewyears ago and he was pretty docile. What tankmates have worked for you ?

My one was actually kept in a planted tank with no issues at all (I lost him during a move). Have you tried keeping them in planted tanks? Are they rooters? Do they normally treat plants the same way lots of other africans do?

Looking for more info. I am interested in getting back into these fish in a few months.

Paratilapia will eat plants if hungry. They are omnivores.
IMO, a group would require a 125 gal tank as they reach 8" and larger when full grown.
Aggression level varies amongs individuals with some extemely agrressive.
Typical breeding sites may be a piece of slate or inside a flower pot laid on side. Fry require 2-3 years of growth befoe they are ready to breed.
Tank mates could be other mad cichlids or larger haps from Malawi. Avoid highly aggressive Malawi haps.
