I am planning on going to the MAS Auction in August. I live about 4 hours away. Is it possible for me to get fish at the action and bring them home the next day? I do have a wall plug-in adapter for my car.

I have transported fish in their bags over 24 hours with no problem. You may want to consider rebagging, but I doubt it.

I would rebag with clean treated water. Also use oxygen if available.
If you buy a bag with adequate water, no fish feces, labeled packed with O2; that bag does not need repack.

Wall plug in adapter? Are you driving all electric?

The adapter converts the cigarette lighter receptacle in the car to a wall plug in.

If I need to re-bag should I do that in when I get to the hotel or before I leave in the morning, and would it be a good idea to use poly-filter (never used it before)?

When out of town I rebag night before. Polyfilter is great for binding nitrogen in water, but I do not use it as I just rebagged. Polyfilter is not adding O2 to bags.
Also the converter would only benefit if you have air pump in bucket like bait buckets.
