I have a soft water tank that I keep around 86* and would like suggestions on a peaceful fish to try breeding that lives I these waters. So far I have tried mikrogeophagus but the females always die, not to mention they are crappy parents.

I have always had better luck with Apistos in the mid 70s for temps. I don't think they would do well at this high temp.

Some, but not all, of the Chocolate gouramis like it that hot and soft. Consider Sphaerichthys osphromenoides or selatanensis. I know you like a challenge.

For an anabantid that's both larger and easier than the chocolates, how about the pearl gourami, Trichopodus leerii.

Your tanks aren't too small. Your fish are too big.
