New group of F1 Neolamprologus nigriventris. Black are males showing off. I am hoping I have a pair.

Despite being rather rare in the hobby, Neolamprologus nigriventris belongs to the closely related species group comprising Neolamprologus leleupi, with the same behavior and requirements, though reaching a much greater maximum size (as for N. pectoralis), hence the need for more available space. The requirements and intraspecific behavior of Neolamprologus nigriventris show some similitude with those of Julidochromis. Both share the same low population density, secretive way of life and breeding, and high intraspecific aggression. A pair is not always easy to form, the best way being to leave several individuals choose for themselves inside a rather large tank (at least 300 liters in capacity). Once the pair is formed, it may be placed in a smaller tank, but in case of a pair bond breaking (unwillingness of the female or any disturbance), the male may quickly kill his mate.
