The cost of shipping or the effort of hauling sand back from an ocean wouldn't be worth. Go to sterling supply and buy a 100lb bag of red flint for $10.

A buddy of mine used some he got from Hawaii (sentimental thing) and has had no issues that I am aware...
It all started with a betta and a bowl...

I'm not sure where all the pool filter, play and aquarium sand we buy come from, but none beat the look of sand actually taken from a body of water. I can' articulate it, but sand from a lake/river/water just looks so much nicer. More elegant.
